About Us

A Unique Pre-Kindy Experience

Welcome to Small Friends Pre-Kindy Singleton — a warm, welcoming learning environment designed specifically for children aged 2.5 to 5 years.

Unlike traditional long day care centres, we are a school-readiness focused Pre-Kindy. Our program is designed to support children as they prepare for their transition into primary school through structured learning, play-based exploration, and meaningful routines.

Our Philosophy

Our Approach to Early Learning

We believe every child thrives in a nurturing, secure and inspiring environment where they feel safe to explore and grow. By working in partnership with families, our educators create meaningful learning experiences that support each child’s unique journey. We recognise that children develop at their own pace, and our programs are designed to build confidence, independence and a strong sense of belonging.

Through hands‑on experiences and sensory exploration, children strengthen their social, emotional, cognitive, physical, language and creative skills. Our environment encourages curiosity, imagination and self‑expression, empowering children to think independently and discover the world around them. We are committed to making every day positive, engaging and full of joyful learning moments that help children build the foundations for lifelong success

What Our Programme Offers

Our sensory-based programme encourages children to explore, create and learn through hands-on experiences. With role-play, outdoor discovery and creative arts, children develop confidence, independence and social skills while learning in a fun, supportive environment.

Meet Our Centre's Manager

Laurie Harrington

Hi, my name is Laurie, and I am the Director of Small Friends Play School here in Singleton. I hold a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care and have worked in the early childhood sector for over 11 years, with a strong background as a kindergarten educator.

I have a genuine love for children and feel incredibly privileged to be part of their early learning journey. Watching children grow, gain confidence, and blossom into their own little personalities is what I am most passionate about. I believe every child is unique and deserves a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment where they feel valued and encouraged to explore, learn, and thrive.

At Small Friends Play School, I am committed to creating a warm, family-focused service where children feel happy, secure, and excited to come each day, and where families feel confident and supported.

What makes Small Friends Singleton different from long day care?

Small Friends Singleton is a dedicated Pre-Kindy for children aged 2.5–5 years. We operate school-style hours, focus strongly on school readiness, and provide a structured learning environment rather than full-day childcare.

What age group do you cater for?

We welcome children aged 2.5 to 5 years. Our program is designed specifically to prepare children for a smooth and confident transition to primary school.

Do children stay in separate rooms based on age?

No. We operate as a mixed-age learning environment where children learn together. This approach encourages peer learning, confidence, leadership and social development.

What are your opening hours?

Our Pre Kindy operates Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 4:15pm, providing a routine that closely reflects school hours.

Do you provide meals?

Children bring their own packed lunches and snacks each day. This supports independence and helps prepare children for school routines.

How does the program support school readiness?

Our curriculum focuses on early literacy, numeracy, independence, social skills, emotional regulation and collaborative learning. The daily routine mirrors school expectations to help children feel confident and prepared for their transition to primary school.
